The Heidi Path

Let's introduce the Heidi Path in Switzerland, famous by the novel written by Johanna Spyri.

We stayed at Hotel Tamina in Ragaz Hot Spa area. At 8 o'clock in the next morning, we finished a breakfast and received two German breads & a portable pot of hot water with their kindness. We arrived at the historic little town of Maienfeld by only 10 minute driving. Before opening the guide shop at 9 o'clock, we bought hams & cheese, fruits and paper cups & dishes for lunch. We got a guide map shown as below, and started trekking (walking ?).

We took the paved path indicated as red line in this map to the Heidi Village. It took approx. 30 minutes to get Oberrofels. The authentic Heidi House is conveted into a museum for walking-in. According to the novel, she lived there with her grandfather in winter time.

We branched the Heidi Trail indicated as a blue line, just off from the Heidi House. We could not find any trekkers on the way up to the Heidi Alp, and we thought that this kind of walking-around was worthless, comparing with world famous Swiss Alps trekkings. After 2 hours, we arrived there to have a break for a humble lunch with coffee.

By a short climb to the Kaltboden, we had a plan to enjoy a nice view to Bad Ragaz and to Chur. Actually, as we had the day shower, nice looking moutain ranges were conceived in the clouds.

The path dips down, however, no dangerous points were found. Meeting a young mountainbiker in the descending way, we arrived at Jenins Village, where the author Johanna Spyri spent her holidays.

Necessary time span is approx. 4 hour from the Heidi House till Jenins, and it took five plus hours in total for Maienfeld - Heidi Alp round trip. It is recommended to bring trekking shoes when climbing up to the Kaltboden, however, we took ordinal jogging shoes this time.
