I bought a STD model from Bass Pro Shops. Although I want to buy from PFJ, PFJ has stopped selling STD models since 03.
Its frame is plastic. It is light weight and low cost. Although it is cheap, I want to say "What is the matter ?".
This may be the reason that PFJ stopped selling STD models. The clearance of spool is large. The 0.3mm line digs in.
But I cannot decide that it is a defect. In US, 0.33mm line (12LB) may be standard.
The most individual point is its planetary gears. Moreover it is easy to maintain even if it has such gears. The gears and the drag washers are not fall from the unit. The brass bolts are inserted into frame. This is ABU.
Although Japanese manufacturers write "Don't take apart your reel", ABU writes how to take apart it on its manuals. ABU believes their owners.
The left is frame. The center is planetary gears and drag washers. The right is main gear (internal gear). The rear is unit frame.
I thought it might be not a good reeling before using, because the center of the reel is not the center of the palm of the hand. But I found it was a good reeling when I used it.
The knob is very good too.
The drag and the spool control knob are easy to adjust. Very good. The drag is powerful.
Although the black rubbers on body are cheap appearance, they make the good grip.

The cheap plastic frame is not cold in winter.
Its appearance is warm. You will feel the kindness of the designer of it.
Japanese manufactures never can make such reel.
