AVOCET

AVOCET is the Mitchell's newest spinning reel . I bought the smallest G500UL .

	Avocet G500UL Mitchell removed the classic taste from 300X . Then the Avocet was born . But I thought what was the copy of " Styled after the famous Mitchell 300 " in Mitchell's site . Is it not " after 300 " , but " after 300X " ? G is the luxury version . S is the standard version . But only G is sold in Japan . Made in China .
	Mechanism Its mechanism is same to Cardinal C300 . It means that Avocet has the good and smooth drive train . Ideally , I want a bushing for the end of pinion . The oscillation is the standard " reduction " system . Perhaps 1000 , 2000 , 4000 have the level winding system of the " S " cam . Especially , 1000 has same body of 500 . But its stroke is enlarged by " S " cum . It's a good idea . See the page of " AbuGarcia / The new flat winding system of C300 " . The spool axis is unique . Its diameter is changed between the front and the end for hi-speed gearing .
	Gears Some people may think that it is same reel to C300 . It is misunderstanding ! The smoothness of gears are same in the most spinning reels now . So , the gear has become only " one of the parts " . We don't need to adhere to gearing . Citroen is using the same parts of Peugeot now . And , the main characters of Citroen and Mitchell are not the smoothness . We should look at another taste .
	It keeps the policy 1 The quick changable spool has been kept since Mitchell 300 . Ideally , I want the hard spool lip and spare AL spool . But the plastic spare is smooth and doesn't have any burr . Its molding is good .
	It keeps the policy 2 Its knob is good . It is legend of Mitchell . 2000 and 4000 are good too .
	It keeps the policy 3 It's bail tripping is good like as Mitchell 300 . The bushings of the bail arms are effective .
	Bail stopper The bail stopper of the opposite side of bail arm prevents the breaking of bail wire . See the page of " Break ? Broken? " . But the stopper of AV-G500UL is too short to touch the rotor perfectly . I repared it with epoxy .
	Aggressive styling Its styling is aggressive . Mitchell could do it because the orthodox C300 was the same PF group . The motif of its right side is Mitchell 300 .
	Line control The " brother " Cardinal C302 is serious defect . Because the forefinger cannot reach to its spool , the angler cannot control the distance . The small AV-G500UL and G1000 are no problem . I checked AV-G2000 and G4000 in the tackle shop . Then , G2000 and G4000 are far . 	300X The rotor balance with no excess weights , the stable rotation by slower oscillation , smooth gearing and good feeling knob are better than 300X . Avocet has abolished the position of 300X .

300X series has become halfway by Avocet . Then , I want to make more simple and classic NEW 300 . Inner spool like as Quartz ? The old 308A ? The Chinese factory of Avocet can make high quality reels . So , I want to make them . Am I too out-of-date ? Should I admit Avocet as the 21 century's Mitchell ? (2004/7/26)

Avocet C2000 C is the new economy virsion of Avocet series. I bought AV-C2000. I found that its spool is nearer than Cardinal 302 which is the brother of AV-C/G2000. Although it is farther than 500/1000, the angler can control the line by the forefinger. Its weight is 275g. It is light, because its size is same as Daiwa's 2500 before " ABS ". The reason of light weight is the small housing and small gear. It is right. Most Japanese reels use the larger gears for efficiency. But their weight are heavy. Mitchell's selection is better than Japanese. Its color is good too. I think that it is good one. (2005/5/5)
