Bail trip
Its tripping system was considered.

"Mitchell way"

The anti-reverse allows, when you have a catch, to have the hand holding the handle free to net the fish. The anti-reverse is engaged by pushing on button in the direction of the arrow. It is not recommended to have the anti-reverse <on> all the time.

This is the part of A/R on Mitchell's manual.

The tripping system was considered with this way also.

The starting point of tripping
Some reels make the accidental bail closure when the A/R are off. 308 prevents it by tripping system.

Its starting point is faster by 90 degree than the ordinary reels.

The starting point of the ordinary reels is this. Although this picture is Avocet, the most of other reels are same.

Why does the fast tripping point prevent the accidental bail closure? You can understand by the center of gravity.

"G" is the center of gravity of the rotor, when the bail is opened.

Turn the rotor by clockwise. You can feel the revolution, when the center of gravity go over the upper point. This revolution is the cause of accidental bail closure.

The starting point of 308 is set before this revolution.

So, although its tripping is light, it prevents accident.

The reverse side
The rotor turns in this direction when you cast the lure with off position.

But, the tripping system doesn't touch the knock, because 308 is "faster".

If the tripping system were same to the ordinary reels, the rotor turned in the clockwise by knocking of reverse revolution.

Cardinal 600/700
A Japanese angler sent me an E-mail, "Why is the tripping system of Cardinal 600 not same to the ordinary reels ? ". It is same to Mitchell.

So, its bail tripping is light.

Try the "Mitchell way". You will know that adjusting the line before casting, changing the lure, cleaning the hook, and "feathering"become easier.

Mitchell considered the tripping system for this "Mitchell way". Oh, Mitchell is great. (2006/8/8)
