Reducing the gear noises

Adjusting the washers to reduce the gear noise of 80's and 90's models.

The noises
The 80's and 90's 308/408 make the gear noise , when the handle is turned with the pressure to the right.
The cause
The shaft of the main gear is longer than the bushing of body.
The right side of the main gear is stopped by the pinion.
So, it makes the noise.
70's model was good
The main gear of 70's is stopped by the handle washer and the bushing.
But it was changed because it was hard to keep the precision.
Parts
I adjust it by these washers.
A : 10-7mm (Shimano's main gear washer of #1000~2500)
B : 8.4-5mm (70's Mitchell's)
Assembling
The washers are assembled between the handle and the bushing.
You can see them on this picture.

This adjustment reduces only the noise when the handle is pushed to right.
The face-gears of 80's and 90's become rough after a few use. This roughness can not be reduced by this adjusting.
The cause is on the next page. (2003/8/8)
