　ダイワ精工はシマノ、リョービをのぞく他のメーカーとおなじく、1960年代初めころ小さな町工場からスタートしました。「ダイワ精工」は元は「大和精工」で、東京中野区「大和町」からつけられたそうです。
　もっとも早く自己ブランドでUS展開した日本メーカーが同社です。ミッチェルがスピニング、ゼブコはスピンキャスト、アブはフルラインでも高級品と棲み分けていた当時の釣り具市場で、ロッドやリールから小物にいたるまでラインナップさせ、ブランドを浸透させていきました。
　日本でもトップメーカーとして知られていましたが、最近ちょっとシマノに押されているようにも感じます（最近はどうも逆らしい・・・2007年追記）。でも、大手メーカーらしからぬ（ちょっと「大手メーカー」に対する偏見きついでしょうか？）、けっこう凝ったリールもあります。マミヤ、リョービなき後、なんとかがんばってほしいところです。

Daiwa was born in the 60's. " Daiwa " is a name of a town of Tokyo Nakano.
Daiwa was the first Japanese manufacturer which went into US market with its own brand.
In those days, other manufacturers were keeping their fields. For example, Mitchell was the spinning reels, Zebco was the spin casting reels, Abu was the bait casting reels and hi-class...
But Daiwa had the full-line-up. So, its brand become popular soon.
Daiwa is the top brand until now in Japan. Daiwa has the innovative tackles, although it is a mass-production manufacturer.
Shimano is increasing its share. Ryobi and Mamiya/Olympic had retired from the fishing tackle market. If Shimano conquer the fishing tackle market, the market would become monotonous like the bicycle market.
So, I hope Daiwa keeping its position.
