シマノは、世界最大の自転車部品メーカーです。70年代に釣り具事業を始めました。
こういった異業種の大企業が、釣り具に参入したのは、リョービと似ています。しかし、ダイワから技術者を移籍して釣り具を開発していったリョービに対し、シマノの釣り具部門は社内技術者中心で始まったそうです。そのためか、BB/BMやバンタム、スカートレススプールの投げ専スピニングエアロキャスト、楕円断面（！）の投げ竿など、固定概念にとらわれない、自由な発送の釣り具を次々に生み出しました。また、製品トラブルがゆるされない自転車部品の思想が受け継がれ、非常に壊れにくい釣り具であったことが、欧米市場で有利に働いたように思えます。
BB/BM、つまりベイトから有名になった日本メーカーであるというのも、異色な点です。
日本のファンはおもしろくないでしょうが、そのユニークな開発方針は、80年代ごろからアブガルシアがかなり意識しています。
よく謙遜で「末席を汚す」といいますが、実はわたくしめが、87〜90年、謙遜ではなく文字通り末席をめちゃくちゃ汚してきたのが、この会社でした。お詫びの気持ちを込めてこのページを始めます（?!）。
SHIMANO is the biggest manufacturer of bicycle parts in the world. SHIMANO had started its fishing tackle division in `70's.
It was same to RYOBI that the big company made the fishing tackle division.
RYOBI started its fishing tackle by the engineers from Daiwa. But SHIMANO started by its own engineers. It is important point.
So, SHIMANO's tackles were radical. For example, BB/BM, Bantam, Aerocast... Aerocast was a surf casting rod. It had the oval section.
SHIMANO's tackles are strong because it is tested like as the bicycle parts. So, its tackles have become popular in US.
SHIMANO is the Japanese only brand which has started by bait reels.
AbuGarcia has been marking SHIMANO since `80's.
I had been employed to SHIMANO since 87 until 90.
